Helping to reduce and manage hearing loss

Helping to reduce and manage hearing loss
Many people experience hearing loss as a gradual, natural deterioration associated with age, or as noise-induced occupational hearing loss. Either way, it’s not always noticeable at first, or even in your day-to-day life. It’s more likely that you will realise after a prolonged period of time as you will probably begin by mishearing words in conversation or on the television.

You can control and manage your hearing loss by recognising your symptoms early and taking appropriate steps. Below are some of the most commonly reported symptoms of hearing loss.

Common symptoms of hearing loss

Turning up the volume

If you find yourself regularly turning up the volume on your TV and if it isn't really helping, you might be experiencing hearing loss. This is because your ear is unable to differentiate between different noises clearly and you need more clarity.
Mishearing other people

You should get your hearing checked if you constantly find yourself misunderstanding conversations or if voices get easily drowned out in busy environments. You might be mishearing words and your brain might be filling in the gaps as it seems fit. This can quickly become very frustrating.
Feeling stressed and worn out

One of the most exhausting symptoms is finding oneself straining to hear in conversations, while watching TV and chatting on the phone. You'll feel easily tired as your brain is working harder to process the muffled sounds and voices. This can lead to people becoming withdrawn as a result of the stress.
Avoiding socialising

Most social situations are loud and it can become hard for you to be in such environments when you are beginning to lose your hearing. You may find it difficult to distinguish between the background noise and the sound of voices. This may lead you to avoid busy and noisy environments.
